The IUAV University of Venice is organizing an international symposium dedicated to design methodologies for addressing emergencies, with a particular focus on those generated by climate change. The event brings together designers, architects, engineers, academics, and experts from Italy and abroad to discuss approaches and solutions in the three fundamental phases of emergencies: prevention, management, and reconstruction.
The symposium has a dual objective: to provide an overview of the state of the art and international design experiences, and to lay the groundwork for drafting a manual dedicated to design in emergency contexts, covering various scales and fields—from product to communication, from service to architecture and urban planning.
The program includes two thematic panels with keynote speakers of international prominence, including Jonathan Andrews (former United Nations) and Edward J. Blakely (professor and manager for the reconstruction of the city of New Orleans), followed by contributions from experts from academia and the professional world. During the event, a design exhibition curated by Paola Ziero and Ilaria di Carlantonio will also be inaugurated.
