Declaration

The Italian Design Society aims to develop and disseminate design culture, advance studies in this field, enhance their value in scientific, educational, academic, social, and civil contexts, share and disseminate research outcomes, and foster debate among design enthusiasts.

Objectives

To promote study and research activities on design in all its aspects, at both national and international levels, also by encouraging forms of coordination among those conducting research, both basic and applied, at university centers, research entities, and public and private institutions.

To collaborate with national, European, and non-European bodies responsible for the promotion, guidance, and funding of scientific research, both basic and applied.

Debate the criteria for defining the scientific quality of research in design in all its aspects.

To foster, also in collaboration with similar organizations and associations, connections between scientific research in the field of design and the social, professional, and productive reality at both national and international levels, also in relation to the culture of Made in Italy.

To address and discuss the general aspects of orientation in design education, also considering its close relationship with research; its definition and extension as a discipline, also in relation to other complementary fields; its institutional placement for the definition of design research within all public and private higher education courses.

To encourage the dissemination and deepening of design knowledge through the curation of publications, the organization of workshops, seminars, and conferences, as well as the annual convention, the awarding of scholarships for research by its members, the establishment of prizes aimed at advancing the discipline, valuing the plurality of theoretical and methodological approaches, as well as professional practices, that characterize design.

To promote the establishment of scientific-cultural networks, particularly by encouraging forms of collaboration with other design associations, entities, institutions, and scientific societies.
