Presentation of research ideas
SID for the 2019 Annual Assembly, which will be held in Ascoli Piceno on June 13 and 14, 2019, has opened the call for papers referring to the following scientific-cultural frameworks:
1 — Design and other knowledge
2 — Design and experimentation
3 — Design and gender identity
SID also proposes a Call for projects and research ideas divided into two categories:
1 — Ongoing or completed research projects within the last two years;
2 — Unpublished research ideas, not yet submitted to other calls.
Participation requirements
— All researchers, whether SID members or not, can participate in the first category by submitting the results of research projects ongoing or completed after January 2017.
— Researchers under 40 (scholars, PhD students and graduates, research fellows, RTDA and RTDB, etc.), whether SID members or not, can participate as proposers in the second category by presenting unpublished research ideas not yet submitted to other calls; researchers over 40 can also participate in the research group.
Participation and selection methods
— The Call will remain open from February 18, 2019, to May 12, 2019.
— Participants in the Call will submit their research and research ideas through a predefined format (see annex 1 and annex 2 to this call), choosing one of the three scientific-cultural frameworks to place it in, by May 12, 2019, at 11:59 PM, sending them to the address: segreteria@societaitalianadesign.it
— The Scientific Committee, composed of the President and three members of the SID Board of Directors and the three experts invited as discussants, will select, in relation to the three scientific-cultural frameworks and based on the criteria specified in the call, the research projects (first category) and research ideas (second category), which will be presented by the proposers with a presentation during the SID 2019 Assembly, with the methods defined below in the call.
— The selection of projects and research ideas will be communicated to the proposers by May 30, 2019, at the latest.
Admission and selection criteria
— Consistency of the project or research idea with the chosen scientific-cultural framework (1, 2, 3)
— Clarity and effectiveness of the proposed research methodology
— Originality and innovativeness of the project or research idea.
Presentation methods
— The selected research projects or research ideas must be presented by the proposers through a presentation lasting a maximum of 10 minutes.
— The presentation methods and supports are free (slides, video, pitch, etc.). For ideas presented in the second category, originality and innovativeness of the presentation methods and tools are required, which represent one of the evaluation criteria for the assignment of the SID RESEARCH AWARD scientific recognition.
— The presentations of projects and research ideas will be organized according to the three scientific-cultural frameworks (1, 2, 3) and according to the two categories: 1. Research projects; 2. Research ideas.
— Each of the three frameworks, in which the presentation program of projects and research ideas will be articulated, will be presented, introduced, and moderated by an expert as a discussant.
Scientific recognitions for participants
— For participants selected in the first category, the publication of their contribution in an e-book curated by SID is planned.
— For participants selected in the second category, in addition to publication in the e-book, a scientific recognition, SID RESEARCH AWARD 2019, will be awarded to the best research ideas under 40.
— All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
SID RESEARCH AWARD
The SID RESEARCH AWARD is a scientific recognition, established by SID, which will be awarded annually during the national Assembly.
For the 2019 edition, it will be awarded by a prestigious Jury to the most deserving research ideas under 40, selected in the second category of the call.
The Jury
The Jury will be composed of:
— the three Discussants
— the Speaker of the introductory intervention
— the President of SID
It will meet at the end of the presentations and select the proposals to which the recognition will be awarded. The Jury may also decide not to award the recognition.
Evaluation criteria for the assignment of the SID RESEARCH AWARD 2019
— Originality and innovativeness of the proposal (max 40 points)
— Adequacy of the methodologies and composition of the research team (max 20 points)
— Appropriateness of the budget (max 10 points)
— Quality and effectiveness of the presentation (max 30 points)
