We are pleased to share the program of the exhibition and seminar “From Material Design to Research,” organized by the bottom-up SID working group design4materials, which will be held in Rome on June 24 and 25, 2024.
Exhibition, June 24 | Opening 5:30 PM
The exhibition gathers ideas, prototypes, patents, and products developed in applied research activities by the 50 faculty members involved in the bottom-up design4materials group over the past 3 years and will be an exhibition “narrated” by those who carried out the activity, becoming a true space for active discussion.
The exhibition will be divided into three sections:
- Design about materials organizes a collection of texts, links to online platforms,
and Italian university material libraries. - Design for materials offers a collection of artifacts where design gives meaning to materials
through their application in products. - Design through materials narrates experiments where design creates materials, giving them an identity.
Seminar, June 25 | 9 AM-2 PM
The seminar, aimed at networking and comparing various perspectives and methodologies in which the theme of materials is addressed in research, is primarily an opportunity to meet and showcase what is being done at the academic level, in order to identify common points, overlaps, differences, and open issues.
The seminar is organized into two sessions:
- Session I – Best Practices: where research projects considered best practices are presented
- Session II – Perspectives: where a discussion will develop,
starting from what emerged from the “narration” of the exhibition and the first
session, with the aim of writing a “Manifesto” of programmatic points
for design research about/for/through materials
