The SID has sent a note to the Chief of Staff, the Head of Department, and Director General Livon regarding the recognition of the designer profession and the initiatives of the College of Experts.
“Dear Sirs, we present to you a matter of particular importance that requires prompt intervention due to the significant impact it may have on education in Industrial Design.
Both the university courses in industrial design and the ISIA have initiated a procedure with UNI for the recognition of the designer profession, a sector of particular relevance for the cultural and economic development of our country.
The procedure, rather complex, effectively provides a sort of veto right by entities, or rather orders, that may have relations with the professional field related to the new recognition request.
This is what happened with the College of Experts, which is sending letters to design graduates asking them to join their College to practice the profession.
In the letter, attached herewith, which effectively exercises the veto right, reference is made to an activity supposedly taking place at the MIUR, of which, however, neither the ISIA nor the university courses in Industrial Design are aware.
After all the efforts being made to regulate and qualify the educational path of designers, maintaining a high profile and relying on a comparison with the best international experiences, it would be truly serious if everything could be regulated with a training course managed by the College of Experts.
We therefore ask for your involvement in this matter, not only to avoid negative repercussions on design courses but also and above all to ensure the highest qualification of a profession that, as we believe you are fully aware, is of particular importance for the economic development of our country.
We are available for all meetings deemed useful to address this issue of utmost importance for the design courses of ISIA and universities and for those who practice this profession.”
