>>> FINAL CONFERENCE PROGRAM <<<
Promoted and curated by the Department of Architecture and Industrial Design of the University of Campania “Luigi Vanvitelli” (www.architettura.unicampania.it), in partnership with the Faculty of Architecture of Çankaya University in Ankara (www.cankaya.edu.tr/index_en.php)
and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow (www.strath.ac.uk), BEYOND ALL LIMITS / 22 is an international and multidisciplinary conference on Sustainability in Architecture, Urban Planning, and Design, now in its second edition.
Compared to the first edition, successfully held in Ankara in 2018, this second edition will be inspired by the New European Bauhaus (NEB) project, initiated by Ursula von der Leyen to make the theme of “sustainability” less utopian, adapting it to the most current issues emerging within the European Union, with the ambition of incorporating it into a program of new actions and funding to reconcile sustainability, style, and inclusion. The NEB, responding to the goals of the European Green Deal through human-centered design, promotes a new lifestyle where sustainability becomes a central element, thus accelerating the green transition in our society, across various sectors of our daily lives and the economy, such as construction, furniture, and fashion.
To the three inseparable core values guiding the NEB, Sustainability, Aesthetics, Inclusion, three key principles were added after the co-design phase concluded on June 30:
1. Combination of global and local dimensions;
2. Participation;
3. Transdisciplinarity.
Furthermore, the analysis of inputs received during the co-design phase highlighted four thematic axes that the Commission decided to follow during the implementation of the NEB:
1. Reconnecting with nature;
2. Recovering a sense of belonging;
3. Prioritizing places and people most in need;
4. Thinking long-term and considering the life cycle in the industrial ecosystem.
The Scientific Committee – composed of 19 professors from 11 scientific-disciplinary sectors of DADI and another 60 faculty members from universities in 18 countries, from China to Brazil – has developed 15 themes and 60 sub-themes to propose to scholars for the development of extended abstracts. The Proceedings will be collected in an ebook by Altralinea Edizioni to be released in June 2022, while the full papers will be subsequently published in a special issue of ANANKE, a Class “A” journal for non-bibliometric sectors of Area 08, and in another special issue of an indexed journal for bibliometric sectors.
The conference has received the Patronage of the PhD Program in Architecture, Industrial Design, and Cultural Heritage of Vanvitelli, of LeNS – Learning Network on Sustainability international, of SID Italian Society of Design, of SIEV Italian Society of Appraisal and Evaluation, of SITdA Italian Society of Architectural Technology, of SIU Italian Society of Urban Planners, of Symbola Foundation for Italian Qualities, and of UID Italian Design Union.
It has also received the prestigious Patronage of the Representation in Italy of the European Commission.
